What is Android Operating System(OS)?

Android is a Linux mobile Based Operating System developed by Google. it is primarily designed for touchscreen mobile devices such as Smartphones, smartwatches, and Tablets based on a modified version of the Linux kernel and other open-source software.

Google has additionally created AndroidWear OS for wrist watches, AndroidAuto for autos, and AndroidTV for TVs, each with a specific UI. Andr0id Game Console, STB, Digital Cameras, PCs & other electronics are the other Variants of this Operating System.

It is an open-source project (led by Google but it doesn’t belong to them) called AOSP (Android Open Source Project). Google uses this project as a base to create its version of Android, which is then used by the other manufacturers.

It is developed by Google and later the OHA (Open Handset Alliance). Java language is mainly used to write the android code even though other languages can be used.

Android Inc was founded in Palo Alto of California, U.S. by Andy Rubin, Rich miner, Nick sears and Chris White in 2003. Later Android Inc. was acquired by Google in 2005. Android was unveiled in Nov 5, 2007.

The first commercial version, Andr0id 1.0, was released in September 2008. it’s code names are confectionery-themed and comes with major updates every year in alphabetical order since 2009’s Andr0id 1.5 Cupcake. Andr0id 8.1 Oreo, is a latest released Version released in December 2017.
